Important Voting Information

Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.  If you are not registered to vote, your application must be postmarked or delivered to the election com-mission in your county at least 30 days before that date.  If you have any doubts about whether you  are registered, call the Davidson County commission, that number is 862-8800.  You can pick up an application at church.  You should address it to the proper county commission.  In Davidson County, the address is 800 Second Avenue South, Nashville TN 37210.  Do you know someone who needs to register?  Someone who has moved?  Someone who has not voted in a while?  You can help by speaking to the person and offering an application.  Those who apply must realize that you are NOT registered to vote until you receive the voter registration card.  It is incumbent upon you to be sure it is received prior to October 3.  Ex-felons can (in many cases) now get back their voting rights much more easily since 2006.  A Certificate of Restoration may be obtained online (copies available at church) which gives simple instructions.  Take one with you if you are registering voters.  Be aware that some heinous offenses still preclude getting voting rights restored.  Consult with Charles Sumner with questions.

CAN YOU REGISTER VOTERS?

Registering voters is important to the voice of the people.  It can always be done in a nonpartisan manner - or if you prefer, you can identify yourself as an advocate of a candidate, in which case you might be more likely to register people in agreement with you.  You can also do the registration in areas where much of the population might be expected to be for your candidate.  There are some localities where fewer are registered to vote, so you might wish to concentrate on these.  Voter registration can be done alone or with others.  Your political party may already be organized to do registrations.  Many ex-felons may be unaware that the ability to get voting rights restored has been made much easier.  Do you know someone who has moved and may not be registered?  REMEMBER, the deadline for registration (or postmark on the form) is Monday, October 6.  NOW is the time!  (Need information?  Contact Charles Sumner, 646-9946.)
