Mark your calendars and please begin collecting your donations for the annual church yard sale to be held on Saturday, October 23. We don’t have a great deal of storage room, so it will be best if you can hold onto them until closer to the date. Mike Morgan will come pick up things from your house if you ask him. In this year of tight budget, fundraisers like this take on an especial importance for the church, so please plan on participating!

Monday, September 6th, 2010Special Wednesday Night Adult Religious Education, Sep 15, 7PM
Monday, September 6th, 2010Please join us for a Wednesday night Adult Religious Education presentation on Wednesday, September 15, beginning at 7:00pm when Michael Rose will discuss his book Audible Signs: Essays from a Musical Ground with us. Whether it’s a song by Brahms or by the Boss, a serenade by Mozart or a ballet by John Harbison, music radiates a diverse spectrum of meaningful signs, hidden in plain hearing. To enjoy the interplay of musical signs, it helps to recognize them in the first place. The various iconographic strategies of “Audible Signs”—including commentary on graphic works, books, poems, and film—yield new appreciations and critiques of composers of vastly divergent styles and technical materials. Mr. Rose, Associate Professor of Composition at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, composes a variety of chamber and symphonic music for many distinguished performers and venues.

Friday, September 3rd, 2010We are making an effort to assess the immediate and longer term needs of our congregation in the aftermath of the recent flood. We want to be able to provide whatever assistance is available including the recently established UUA Tennessee-Kentucky Emergency Flood Relief Fund.
In order to fully assess the needs of all GNUUC members and friends, we are asking everyone to please take some time to complete this survey form available online as a Word Document or as a PDF.
As this recovery process is going to be a lengthy process, please feel free to update your form from time to time as your situation changes or becomes clearer.

“Alaska’s Inside Passage – On Your Terms”, Apr 21, 7:30PM
Monday, April 19th, 2010
Come join Michael Moryc on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. for a tour of Alaska’s Inside Passage in a non-conventional way. He and his wife, Rachel, spent the first two weeks of last September touring the cities of the Inside Passage by using the Alaska Marine Highway System – the ferries! Not only did this turn out to be more economical than most traditional methods, but it also allowed the flexibility of what ports and how long they stayed at them. Come see images from the trip covering awesome landscapes, city histories and wildlife encounters. It is sure to be a night of wonderment!
